A Chinese technology firm has proposed investing in four major artificial intelligence (AI) projects in Cambodia, aiming to position the Southeast Asian nation as a regional hub for digital commerce and AI innovation. Beijing Star AI Co. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Zhang Wei presented the company's proposal to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet during a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday. The Prime Minister is currently on a three-day (July 15-17) official working visit to China. The proposed initiatives, which the company is exploring alongside a local Cambodian partner, include: An ASEAN Regional Intelligent Computing Centre; A Film-Grade AI Agent Research and Development Centre; A Cross-Border AI Short Drama Distribution Centre; and An ASEAN Digital Commerce Operation Centre. Mr. Zhang told the Prime Minister that Beijing Star AI specializes in AI-generated content (AIGC) for film and video production, having developed what it claims is the world's first film-grade AI Agent system. The proposed projects are designed to boost regional high-performance computing infrastructure, digital content creation, and AI research. In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the company’s investment interest, noting that technological innovation and digital transformation are key pillars of Cambodia’s national development blueprint, the Pentagonal Strategy. The Prime Minister urged the Chinese firm to hold detailed discussions with relevant Cambodian agencies, particularly the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, to draft concrete investment plans.
