Vietnam Boosts Science, Technology, and Innovation for High-Land Specialty Products

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam has issued directives to strengthen the application of science, technology, and innovation in the production of high-land specialty products. This initiative aims to move beyond the adoption of isolated technologies towards solutions that address bottlenecks across the entire value chain, from raw material production to market entry. Specifically, the directive emphasizes that science, technology, and innovation must create tangible value by resolving concrete issues within the production, processing, and distribution of regional specialty goods. This effort is part of Vietnam's broader economic growth strategy, focusing on enhancing the added value of agricultural products and processed goods. Under the one-party system, Party resolutions form the bedrock of national policy and guide economic development. High-land regions possess diverse specialty products leveraging unique climates and soils, but have often faced challenges such as underdeveloped infrastructure and weak distribution networks. Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW calls for a comprehensive approach using science and innovation to tackle these issues. Concrete measures include establishing large-scale data centers for agricultural production, creating economic zones to promote cashless payments, and accelerating digital transformation in border trade between Vietnam, Laos, and China. The ultimate goal is to build sustainable supply chains and boost the competitiveness of the regional economy. Vietnam's economy has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. However, sustaining this growth requires a transition from labor-intensive industries to high-value-added sectors. Especially amidst complex relations with China, where economic security and supply chain diversification are critical concerns, maximizing the utilization of domestic regional resources to enhance international competitiveness holds strategic importance for Vietnam.
