Myanmar President Visits VinFast Plant, Impressed by Vietnam's Automotive Growth

Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by a high-level delegation, visited the VinFast factory in Hai Phong on September 4th, seeking to understand the development story of the Vietnamese automobile brand. The visit offered insights into Vietnam's industrial progress and the growth trajectory of its automotive sector. Phạm Nhật Quân Anh, Chairman of VinFast Global, welcomed the Myanmar President and provided a tour of the welding and electric vehicle assembly workshops. President Min Aung Hlaing was briefed on VinFast's integrated production process, automated assembly lines, and its range of vehicles. According to the Vietnamese automaker, the Myanmar President expressed his admiration for the production stages at the factory and VinFast's journey to lead the domestic market and expand globally. VinFast currently holds the number one market share in Vietnam for 24 consecutive months and has a presence in 16 countries, with key markets including Indonesia, India, the Philippines, and North America. The visit by the Myanmar President to Vietnam takes place amidst a context where bilateral trade between the two countries reached $336 million in the first six months of the year, a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The visit also provided an opportunity for VinFast to showcase the latest achievements of Vietnam's automotive industry, the production capabilities, and technological mastery of Vietnamese enterprises to Myanmar's leadership. This is expected to contribute to strengthening connections between the two nations in the fields of industry, trade, and green transportation. The Hai Phong plant is recognized as one of Vietnam's modern automotive production complexes, serving as a foundation for VinFast's global expansion with its focus on developing a green transportation ecosystem. Previously, the facility has hosted numerous high-ranking officials and heads of state during their visits to Vietnam, opening doors for economic cooperation and partnerships. President Min Aung Hlaing is on an official visit to Vietnam from September 4th to 6th, at the invitation of General Secretary and President Tô Lâm. This marks his first visit to Vietnam since the country completed its general election and established a new government, and it represents the highest-level exchange between the two sides since 2019. Born in 1956, Min Aung Hlaing has held the position of President of Myanmar since April 2021. He has a long military career, having served as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from 2011 to 2016.
