Thailand Shooting Incident: One More Victim Dies, Police Questioning Friends for Motive

A 12-year-old female student has died from injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Nonthaburi, Thailand, bringing the total death toll to nine. On August 8, at 2:00 PM, at Wat Temprak Samakkhi Temple in Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province, a funeral service was held for the grandfather, 73, and grandmother, 68, who were allegedly killed by their grandson, and the 14-year-old grandson, Dochat Imrueng, a Matthayom 3 student at Debsirin School Nonthaburi, who carried out the school shooting. The atmosphere was filled with grief, with family and relatives of the deceased attending the ceremony, which is scheduled to last for three nights before cremation on August 11 at 4:00 PM. It was newly confirmed that a 12-year-old female student, Naphat Chaima, who was severely injured at the school and receiving treatment at Phra Nang Klao Hospital, has passed away. Meanwhile, at the Plai Bang Police Station, Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 1, Pol. Col. Chokchai Kanacharoen, and his team are investigating the school shooting incident at Debsirin School Nonthaburi, which was carried out by a Matthayom 3 student and resulted in eight deaths and 23 injuries. Police are interviewing 16 individuals, including teachers, students, and witnesses, to ascertain the clear motive behind the attack. A male student, a classmate of the perpetrator in Matthayom 3/8, who was present at the scene, told reporters that it is true the perpetrator was looking for a Thai language teacher, referred to as Khun A (pseudonym). The reason for this search remains unknown. The perpetrator reportedly received a failing grade of '0' for the first time, although his academic performance was not previously strong. This classmate revealed that the perpetrator had consulted him, expressing confusion as to why his grades could not be improved despite submitting all his assignments. Pol. Col. Chokchai stated that approximately 20 witnesses, including teachers and students, are scheduled for interviews, with 16 individuals (about 6-7 fellow students and teachers) already having provided statements. Regarding the involvement of the Thai language teacher, while no interview has been conducted yet, police are coordinating to request her cooperation. Furthermore, police are urgently investigating the origin of the ammunition. According to information from a friend of the perpetrator, he enjoyed playing with airsoft guns, prompting an investigation into his past experience or training with firearms. The ammunition used in the incident was live. The remaining 34 rounds found in his possession were part of the 98 rounds he had.
