Proposal submitted to Ayeyawady Region Hluttaw to form supervisory committees for systematic extraction and use of natural resources
A proposal was submitted to the Ayeyawady Region Hluttaw to establish tiered supervisory committees for the systematic extraction and use of natural resources. U Zaw Lin Aung, the Region Hluttaw representative for Constituency No. 2, Ingapu, submitted the proposal on the first day (June 2) of the second regular session of the third Ayeyawady Region Hluttaw. In his proposal, the Hluttaw representative stated that due to inadequate systematic management in the extraction and use of natural resources such as forests, sand, stone, and minerals within the region, there are problems of resource depletion and damage, environmental impacts, and a lack of benefits for local communities. He also noted that insufficient coordination among relevant departments and weak monitoring and supervision could lead to illegal extraction and use. "Resources are being depleted, and due to the lack of systematic supervision, they are being wasted and damaged. Because there is no systematic production, the environment is also being damaged. Therefore, this proposal is to urge the government to have departments, experts, civil society organizations, and representatives participate in supervising at the township, district, and region levels," explained U Zaw Lin Aung, the Region Hluttaw representative for Constituency No. 2, Ingapu. It was learned that the proposal also urged for the establishment of systems to effectively take legal action against illegal or non-compliant extraction and use, and for measures to be taken to reinvest an equitable share of the benefits derived from regional resource extraction into regional development activities. Regarding resource extraction, U Zaw Lin Aung explained, "They just keep extracting like this. Is it beneficial for the region? Only environmental damage is left. It should be reinvested in regional development. Whether it's a company or an individual who obtains it. It should benefit the region. We urged the government on that point as well." Following this proposal, one Hluttaw representative debated in support. Subsequently, the Speaker of the Hluttaw sought the opinion of the Hluttaw regarding the proposal, and as there were no objectors, it was approved for discussion in the Hluttaw.
