Cambodia's Interior Minister Urges Police to Be Role Models in Law Enforcement

Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Sar Sokha, has instructed police officers and law enforcement officials to be role models in respecting and implementing laws, emphasizing that the enforcement of discipline and laws must begin with the police officers themselves before being applied to the general public. These remarks were made during the official inauguration ceremony for the new detention building, administration building, and various achievements at Kep Prison, located in Antong Sa village, Pong Teuk commune, Damnak Chang'aer district, Kep province, on September 5, 2026. Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha stressed that police officers and officials using uniforms must wear them correctly according to principles and serve as models for the public. Specifically, he urged them to wear safety helmets when traveling by motorcycle to demonstrate respect for the law and set a good example in society. The Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities will organize vehicle inspections, focusing on the use of fake license plates and vehicles that have not fulfilled their tax obligations. Legal measures will be taken against vehicles found to be in violation. These inspections and law enforcement measures are to be implemented equally without exception. The minister stated that law enforcement officials must first apply the law to themselves and their subordinates to ensure they serve as role models and gain public trust.
