SURAT THANI — Police have launched an urgent manhunt after a male detainee accused of assault escaped from custody while being taken to Koh Samui Provincial Court in Koh Samui district on September 16. The detainee, identified as a Thai man believed to be around 26 years old, reportedly picked his handcuffs and fled from an area behind the court that connects to a municipal garbage disposal site in Maret subdistrict. He is described as approximately 175 centimeters tall, with a slim build, dark reddish-brown skin, and long hair. He was last seen wearing long jeans and no shirt. Police have cordoned off the area and are conducting a thorough search for the escaped detainee. The Bo Phut Police Station also issued a public warning on its Facebook page, urging residents in Koh Samui district to remain alert and report anyone matching the suspect’s description. Authorities urge anyone who spots a person matching the description or has information about his whereabouts to contact the station at 077-414567 or 061-3064453, which are available 24 hours a day.
