Vietnam Communist Party Adopts Resolution on New Development Model

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam has adopted a resolution on renewing the country's development model (Resolution No. 19-NQ/TW, dated July 28, 2026) at the third plenum of the 14th tenure. The resolution was signed and promulgated by the Central Committee on behalf of General Secretary and President To Lam. This resolution aims to shift Vietnam away from the rapid economic growth model it has pursued for decades. It suggests a transition from the traditional export-driven, investment-dependent growth to a model that emphasizes sustainability, innovation, the digital economy, and green growth. Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic growth over the past decades, significantly improving the living standards of its people. However, this growth has also created challenges such as increased environmental burden, widening income inequality, and vulnerability to fluctuations in the global economy. The renewal of the development model is a strong indication of the Party's determination to address these issues and achieve more inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development. While specific details of the resolution have not yet been fully disclosed, it is expected to include structural reforms of the national economy, human capital development, promotion of technological innovation, and strengthening of environmental protection. This will be a crucial strategic turning point for Vietnam as it transitions from a middle-income to a high-income country and further enhances its influence in the international community. Additionally, a separate resolution on national security strategy was also adopted at the same plenum, indicating a dual approach to domestic stability and development.
