Cambodia's Ministry of Rural Development Holds Dissemination Meeting on Comprehensive Intervention Program

Phnom Penh, September 21, 2026-- The Ministry of Rural Development held a dissemination and guidance meeting on the implementation of the Royal Government's comprehensive intervention program through livelihood restoration and temporary employment projects. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. CHHAY Rithysen, Minister of Rural Development, at the Ministry's headquarters on Monday afternoon. In attendance were Excellencies, Ladies, and Gentlemen, leaders of the Ministry and provincial rural development departments in target provinces, with some participating via Zoom. H.E. Dr. CHHAY Rithysen stated that in response to the multi-faceted crisis faced by the people, especially returning migrant workers from Thailand, the Royal Government in 7th mandate, under the wise leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has launched a comprehensive intervention program to help restore the livelihoods of people in rural areas, particularly the poor families severely affected by this crisis. Concurrently, the Ministry of Rural Development will participate in implementing this intervention program through the construction, repair, and maintenance of approximately 4,000 kilometers of rural infrastructure, utilizing about 70% of the local labor force. This project is set to be implemented over a total period of approximately 18 months and is expected to provide temporary employment for about 100,000 people in 15 target provinces, including Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Battambang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kampot, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, and Kampong Speu. Finally, H.E. the Minister provided several recommendations to the project management unit and the provincial rural development departments in the target provinces to contribute to promoting and enhancing the mechanisms for the effective, efficient, and sustainable implementation of the above project, in line with its objectives and expectations.
