Vietnam Approves Plan for 80th Anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day

The Vietnamese government has approved the operational regulations and implementation plan for activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2027). On July 20, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, as the head of the Central Steering Committee for the commemoration, signed Decision No. 73/QD-BCĐ, establishing the operational regulations for the committee. The regulations stipulate that the committee operates on the principles of concentration, democracy, open discussion, ensuring unity, and emphasizing individual responsibility of leaders. The Central Committee operates under the direct leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister, who holds the final decision-making authority. Deputy heads of the committee make decisions on assigned matters, and committee members are responsible for implementing their allocated tasks. Meetings are held regularly and also on an ad-hoc basis when necessary. On the same day, Decision No. 74/QD-BCĐ, outlining the implementation plan for the commemorative activities, was also signed. According to the plan, in 2026, key activities will include refining institutions and policies, organizing tribute activities, conducting information and propaganda campaigns, launching "Gratitude" movements, holding commemorative events, and special artistic programs. In 2027, the committee will continue with ongoing tasks from 2026 and carry out further tribute activities and major commemorative events. Specific events include a special national-level ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day and commend outstanding individuals who rendered service to the revolution; offering incense and paying tribute to heroes and martyrs at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs; and a special televised art exchange (broadcast on VTV1) to honor heroes, martyrs, war invalids, and those who contributed to the nation. These activities are part of Vietnam's efforts, under its one-party system, to preserve national historical memory, foster patriotism among its citizens, and promote social solidarity. In the context of its ongoing economic growth, Vietnam places importance on maintaining and enhancing social cohesion and national morale through such large-scale national commemorations.
