Hanoi Welcomes Central Retail Vietnam's Expansion Plans

Hanoi has welcomed plans by Thai retail giant Central Retail Vietnam to continue investing in its supermarket network and increase the proportion of Vietnamese products in its distribution system. The group also intends to deepen its support for farmers, cooperatives, and producers across the supply chain, encompassing cultivation, harvesting, packaging, and product standardization. This initiative aligns with Vietnam's broader economic goals, including boosting domestic consumption and enhancing the value of local goods. Hanoi, in particular, is accelerating its digital economy development, targeting it to contribute 22% of its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by the end of 2026. The city is also piloting digital consumer protection and e-commerce assurance schemes. Central Retail's expanded investment is expected to contribute to the growth of Vietnam's consumer market and strengthen the competitiveness of local suppliers. In Vietnam's one-party system, economic growth is a key priority, with the government balancing foreign investment attraction and domestic industry development. Diversifying investment sources and trade partners is crucial for Vietnam's economic stability, especially given its strong economic ties with China.
