Hun Sen's Legacy and Cambodia's Future: Hun Manet Administration's Strategy

Khun Sreng, a member of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) Central Committee and Chairman of the Phnom Penh Municipal CPP Committee, emphasized that the party's strategy is based on resolving issues through international legal mechanisms, adopting a "quiet but not silent" approach. He explained this as a diplomatic and legal strategy to maintain Cambodia's sovereignty, particularly concerning border issues with Thailand, and to minimize impacts on the lives of the people. During a welcoming ceremony for 552 new party members held at the Phnom Penh Municipal CPP headquarters on Sunday, August 9, 2026, Khun Sreng stated that the CPP has made significant contributions to liberating the nation from the Pol Pot regime and rebuilding the country from scratch. He praised former Prime Minister Hun Sen's dedication to national liberation and development, and expressed confidence in Prime Minister Hun Manet's leadership in achieving national goals of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. Khun Sreng urged the public to trust the current government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet. He noted that the administration is committed to maintaining peace, stability, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty. Specifically regarding the border issues with Thailand, he stated that the "quiet but not silent" strategy, utilizing international law and diplomacy, has demonstrated Cambodia's commitment to its territorial integrity to the international community and made the international community aware of Thai incursions into Cambodian territory. This strategy aims to minimize the impact on the people and society as a whole. He called on the public to unite behind Prime Minister Hun Manet, emphasizing the need to strengthen the foundation for Cambodia to become a high-income country by 2050. He also urged each new member to cast a vote for the CPP in the upcoming general elections in 2027-2028, thereby contributing to further national development.
