POIPET CITY, Banteay Meanchey Province – An illegal cockfighting den, which had been causing disturbances to local residents, was raided by authorities in Poipet City on July 19, 2026. According to the Poipet City Police, after receiving information from local residents, an investigation was launched into a cockfighting operation that was being held secretly and daily near the market in Chan Kiri Village. This venue, where gamblers were placing bets and wagering large sums of money, had been disrupting the peace of nearby residents. Upon the police's arrival, the gamblers, alerted in advance, fled with their fighting roosters. However, the police seized cockfighting paraphernalia as evidence, which has been kept at the Poipet City Police Station as items used in illegal gambling. Local residents have welcomed the raid and expressed gratitude for the authorities' swift action. They stated that they had been troubled by the noise, deteriorating public safety, and the increase in crimes such as domestic violence and theft associated with cockfighting.
