Krakatau Osaka Steel to Cease Operations Amid Import Competition and Demand Shifts

Krakatau Osaka Steel (KOS), a joint venture between Indonesia's Krakatau Steel and Japan's Osaka Steel, will cease operations by late April 2026. The closure follows persistent losses, inability to compete with low-cost Chinese steel imports, and slowing infrastructure projects.
