Cambodia Reaffirms Support for ASEAN Ceasefire Observer Mission

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence has reaffirmed its support for an ASEAN observer mission monitoring the ceasefire along the border with Thailand, recognizing the team's role as vital for promoting peace and stability and pledging continued commitment to ground operations. On July 27, Lieutenant General Pov Heng, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and head of Military Region 4, met with a delegation from the ASEAN Observer Team–Cambodia in Siem Reap. The delegation was led by Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon of the Philippines, Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia. Lt. Gen. Pov Heng welcomed the delegation to the Military Region 4 headquarters, thanked them for their role in promoting peace and stability under ASEAN, and briefed them on recent border developments. Commodore Dizon expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s facilitation of observation, verification, and reporting missions since the ceasefire took effect in December 2025. He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to monitoring and reporting on the situation along the border. The ministry stated that Cambodia continues to support the observer mission’s work, describing it as vital to promoting transparency, building trust, and protecting civilians. It added that Cambodia also welcomes participation from friendly nations in supporting peace-building efforts. The statement reiterated the Royal Government’s commitment to implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee signed on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement of October 26, 2025, and other relevant accords. The pledge is intended to support recovery, restore normal conditions along the border, and promote lasting peace and stability.
