Cambodia, Grab Discuss EV Infrastructure, Digital Skills, MSME Support

PHNOM PENH, Sept 1, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Singapore‑based technology company Grab Holdings are exploring broader cooperation on electric‑vehicle (EV) policy, charging infrastructure, digital skills and support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), officials said Monday. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), held talks with Chin Yin Ong, Grab’s Chief Organisation Capability Officer, during her working visit to Cambodia from August 31 to September 2. Discussions focused on Grab’s business updates and potential cooperation with the government on EV policy, charging infrastructure and forthcoming price regulations in the ride‑hailing industry. Grab also presented initiatives to strengthen its contribution to Cambodia’s economy, including studying cooperation to establish an MSME Hub, providing training and upskilling programmes for driver‑partners and merchant‑partners, and exploring innovative marketing strategies to support tourism promotion. Ong requested guidance from Chanthol to help frame Grab’s business action plan in Cambodia. Chanthol welcomed the delegation and expressed support for the company’s initiatives, commending its commitment to digital economic development. He also reiterated the government’s determination to combat online scams, stressing the importance of a safe and trustworthy investment environment for digital services. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation to support Cambodia’s economic development amid global uncertainties. The proposed partnership would expand Grab’s role beyond ride‑hailing to cover EV adoption and infrastructure, MSME development, workforce digital skills and tourism promotion, aligning with the government’s broader digital‑economy priorities.
