Dump Truck Collides with Gantry Sign on HCMC-Long Thanh Expressway, Causing Closure

An accident involving a dump truck colliding with a gantry sign occurred on the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh Expressway, leading to a temporary full closure of the route. The incident happened on the afternoon of December 16 in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province. The dump truck, while transporting its load, came into contact with the height-restricted gantry sign, causing significant damage and its subsequent fall onto the road. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Following the accident, police rushed to the scene to manage traffic. Due to the need to remove the damaged sign and ensure safety, traffic in both directions towards Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh was completely halted from the afternoon until late at night on the same day. The accident forced many vehicles using the expressway to take detours, resulting in traffic congestion on surrounding roads. As this is a major route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh International Airport, the impact on traffic was substantial. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, with potential factors including exceeding load height limits or driver negligence. The highway's safety management system may also be reviewed. Vietnam has seen rapid infrastructure development in recent years, with an expanding expressway network.
