4 rivers exceed warning levels, low-lying areas in 6 townships inundated

Due to continuous rainfall, mountain runoff has caused the Salween River, Bilin River, Sittang River, and Shwegyin River to exceed their warning levels, leading to inundation in the low-lying areas of four townships through which these rivers flow. As of 4 PM today (July 11), the Salween River's water level in Hpa-an Township was approximately one inch above the town's warning level. The Bilin River's water level in Bilin Township was at the town's warning level. The Sittang River's water level in Madauk was over 1.5 feet above the town's warning level. The Shwegyin River's water level in Shwegyin was over one foot above the warning level, according to reports. Furthermore, the Chindwin River's water level in Homalin Township is currently over 1.5 feet below the town's warning level, but it has been warned that it could rise to the warning level within the next day and a half. Additionally, it has been warned that on July 12, the water levels of the Salween River, Sittang River, and Shwegyin River could each rise by about half a foot, and the Bilin River's water level could rise by another foot. Residents in low-lying areas and near riverbanks have also been cautioned to stay vigilant. Due to the rainfall, low-lying areas and regions near rivers and streams in townships such as Bilin, Shwegyin, Madauk, Toungoo, Hpa-an, and Myawaddy are currently experiencing flooding, and evacuations are reportedly underway. Moreover, in Rakhine State, continuous rainfall has caused flooding in townships including Mrauk U, Kyauk Taw, Maungdaw, Sittwe, Ann, Thandwe, and Taungup, with floodwaters reaching the roads. Furthermore, the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO) of the Arakan National Party announced on July 9 that three people have died in the floods in Rakhine State, and incidents such as road and bridge damage, and landslides/cliff collapses are occurring. According to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department's 4 PM release, due to moderate to strong monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, scattered thunderstorms are possible in Mandalay, Magway, lower Sagaing, and Kayah (Karenni) regions and states. Showers are expected in scattered areas of upper Sagaing and Kachin, and widespread in the remaining regions and states. Heavy rainfall is also possible in isolated areas of Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, upper Sagaing, Ayeyarwady, Tanintharyi, Karen, Mon, and Rakhine regions and states, according to the warning.
