Elderly couple killed by junta shelling in Minthart

Two elderly civilians, a couple, were killed in Minthart Township, Chin State, which is controlled by the Chinland Defence Force (CDF), when the junta forces fired artillery shells, according to local residents. The artillery shells were fired by the artillery battalion based in Kyaukhtu, Magway Region, on the morning of September 4, and the shells landed and exploded in a garden in Minthart Township. "The couple was hit by artillery shells fired by soldiers while they were walking outside. They lived in the garden. They were also over 60 years old. They had been living in the garden since the good old days," a Minthart local told the Irrawaddy Times. The junta forces have been indiscriminately firing artillery shells into Minthart city and its surrounding villages since the evening of September 3, via Kyaukhtu town. "The indiscriminate firing of artillery shells towards Minthart started last night. This morning, they were still firing from the morning until around noon," the Minthart local added. In addition, around 5 p.m. yesterday, the junta forces attacked the eastern part of Minthart city with two bombs dropped from a jet fighter.
