Indonesia and Thailand Agree to Strengthen ASEAN's Role in Myanmar Crisis Resolution

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul agreed to bolster ASEAN's constructive role in resolving the Myanmar crisis during their meeting in Jakarta. Prabowo stated that both countries exchanged views on various regional and global developments, with the Myanmar issue being one of the key topics discussed. Both nations reaffirmed the importance of ASEAN's unity and centrality as the foundation for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. "Regarding Myanmar, we agreed to support ASEAN's efforts to encourage the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, namely encouraging the cessation of violence and inter-party dialogue, and increasing humanitarian access," said Prabowo. The Five-Point Consensus is an ASEAN agreement comprising five points aimed at helping resolve the Myanmar crisis, including the cessation of violence and dialogue among parties. Prabowo expressed that Indonesia and Thailand will continue to cooperate to enable ASEAN to support the creation of sustainable peace in Myanmar. "Indonesia and Thailand will continue to work together to encourage ASEAN to play a constructive role in supporting the creation of sustainable peace in Myanmar," he stated. Beyond Myanmar, President Prabowo and Prime Minister Charnvirakul also discussed developments in the Middle East. Both countries emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law in resolving conflicts. President Prabowo pointed out that Indonesia and Thailand share a common responsibility as founding members of ASEAN to maintain peace, stability, and security, and to create shared prosperity in the region. He also assessed that global challenges and non-traditional security threats are becoming increasingly complex, necessitating Indonesia and Thailand's contribution to maintaining ASEAN's resilience and relevance. "We have discussed in depth various bilateral, regional, and global issues," concluded President Prabowo.
