Phnom Penh Authorities Clear Canal Along National Road 4 to Ease Water Flow and Prevent Flooding

On the afternoon of July 23, 2026, authorities from Chom Chao 3 Sangkat in Por Sen Chey district, Phnom Penh, conducted a cleanup operation to remove garbage from a canal along National Road 4. The initiative aims to ease water flow and prevent flooding caused by rainfall. Mr. Va Savoeun, Chief of Chom Chao 3 Sangkat, stated that a significant amount of garbage was observed floating on the water's surface, obstructing the flow. He led local militia forces from the sangkat and villages in clearing the debris from the aforementioned canal. Mr. Savoeun further explained that the canal serves as a main drainage channel for the entire Por Sen Chey district, playing a crucial role in managing floodwaters within the area. The authorities also appealed to all citizens to properly package and dispose of their waste, urging them to avoid indiscriminate dumping that could lead to blockages in the water channels and disrupt water flow.
