PNP Has Leads on DOJ, Senate Bomb Incidents

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced that its investigation into the explosive devices found in front of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Senate building on July 27 is progressing towards identifying the perpetrators. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. did not provide details but assured the public that police are on track in identifying the culprits. "Our probers are continuously investigating and we are pursuing it just like other cases," Nartatez told reporters. "Give us ample time, 24 hours. You will be surprised that we have filed." The incidents occurred hours before President Marcos delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday. An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the DOJ compound along Padre Faura street in Manila. No casualties were reported. Police also discovered an IED near the Senate complex in Pasay before the SONA started. Nartatez had earlier stated that the bomb incidents could be connected. These incidents occurred amidst heightened political tensions in the Philippines. The discovery of explosives, seemingly targeting government institutions shortly before a significant political event like the State of the Nation Address, could raise concerns about domestic security.
