Cambodia Braces for Three Days of Rain, Thunderstorms, and Gusts
Cambodia is forecast to experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusts across 50-70% of its land area from September 17-19. Coastal regions are expected to be particularly affected due to low-pressure systems influencing monsoon winds.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia has issued a forecast predicting a high probability of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts across the country for three days, from September 17 to 19, 2026. This weather phenomenon is expected to cover 50% to 70% of the nation's land area. According to the ministry's announcement, low-pressure systems developing over the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the South China Sea are influencing the southwest monsoon winds blowing over the Mekong River basin, the Cambodian coast, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. This meteorological situation is projected to affect weather patterns in several regions within Cambodia over the next three days. Detailed forecasts by region are as follows: 1. Plains Region: Minimum temperatures are expected to be 25°C and maximum temperatures 33°C. Winds from the southwest and northwest will blow at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital will experience rain with thunderstorms and gusts covering 50% of their land area. 2. Highland Region: Minimum temperatures are expected to be 24°C and maximum temperatures 31°C. Winds from the southwest and west will blow at an average speed of 5 meters per second. Provinces such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and areas around the Dangrek Mountains and the Cardamom Mountains will experience rain with thunderstorms and gusts covering 70% of their land area. 3. Coastal Region: Minimum temperatures are expected to be 25°C and maximum temperatures 34°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast will blow at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and areas around Bokor Mountain will experience rain with thunderstorms and gusts covering 60% of their land area.
