Battambang City Accelerates Infrastructure Development: Road Construction and Drainage System Improvements to Enhance Citizen Life

Infrastructure development aimed at improving citizen convenience is actively underway in Battambang City, western Cambodia. Road construction projects, including a road branching off National Road 5 towards the Military Region 5 Hospital (commonly known as "Ppey Hospital") and passing through the Tuol Ta Ek commune, are being rapidly advanced by engineering units from Siem Reap. Despite the rainy season, the installation of drainage pipes essential for road construction is being vigorously carried out. According to Punha Rith, Director of the Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport of Battambang, this road is part of a project led by Prime Minister Hun Manet. A total of 14 roads in Battambang City are included in the Prime Minister's project. Furthermore, 21 road construction projects supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are ongoing in major urban areas. This large-scale ADB project will commence its bidding process after the completion of extensive drainage pipe installations aimed at treating sewage for the entire city. Additionally, several roads paved with reinforced concrete have been constructed by the company Tuy Khi. Currently, some roads under the Prime Minister's project are under construction, while others have been fully completed. These infrastructure improvements have brought great joy to local residents, as roads that were once plagued by potholes and mud have been asphalted. Director Punha Rith is requesting understanding and cooperation from citizens during the period when the ADB project is preparing for bidding. He acknowledges that road conditions may deteriorate during the installation of large drainage pipes to discharge sewage from the entire city. The provincial administration is deploying heavy machinery to temporarily facilitate passage in difficult areas, but reiterates its appeal for understanding regarding the progress of construction during the rainy season.
