PM Urges Stronger Coordination in Cybersecurity Response, Targets 2027 Regional Hub Operation

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has pushed for stronger coordination in cybersecurity response, directing the operationalization of the Regional Counter Cybercrime Hub for Asia-Pacific by 2027. He also called for the preparation of a "Cybersecurity Economy" initiative for APEC 2027, the strengthening of specialized cybersecurity agencies, and the expansion of the national cybersecurity operations center by the second quarter of 2028. The Prime Minister emphasized that cybersecurity protection must center on both information systems and people. This highlights the critical importance of safeguarding not only the nation's infrastructure from cyber threats but also protecting citizens' personal information and privacy in the increasingly digitalized modern society. Vietnam has recently enacted a Cybersecurity Law to strengthen the protection of citizens' rights in the digital age, and these directives represent concrete steps to ensure the effectiveness of such legal frameworks. As Vietnam experiences economic growth, the risks of cyberattacks are also escalating, making enhanced international cooperation essential. The establishment of a regional hub, in particular, is expected to boost information sharing, joint investigations, and talent development, thereby enhancing the capability to combat cybercrime. Furthermore, the "Cybersecurity Economy" initiative aims to view the cybersecurity sector as a new economic growth opportunity, fostering related industries and strengthening international competitiveness. This is seen as part of Vietnam's strategy to increase its presence not only in manufacturing but also in the digital economy.
