Indonesia's Aviation Safety Score Tops Global Average, Ministry Says

The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation announced that the country's aviation safety score has exceeded the global average in the safety audits conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This assessment is based on ICAO's "Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP)," indicating an improvement in the safety management system of Indonesia's aviation industry. ICAO's USOAP comprehensively evaluates the safety management systems of its member states. While Indonesia had previously received recommendations for improvement in past audits, the recent announcement suggests that the Indonesian aviation authorities have been recognized for strengthening their systems in line with international standards, particularly in areas such as pilot training, aircraft maintenance, and operational management. As an archipelagic nation with vast distances between islands, Indonesia's domestic air transport network is crucial for the movement of people and goods, making aviation safety a paramount concern for national life and economic activities. Historically, concerns have been raised regarding the safety records of some domestic airlines. However, this latest ICA0 assessment could serve as a step towards alleviating these concerns and enhancing international trust. The Ministry of Transportation has stated its commitment to continuing the implementation of safety measures and strengthening cooperation with ICAO going forward.
