Cambodia: Three Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault and Drug Offenses

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – On July 27, 2026, the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie transferred three suspects to court and drug rehabilitation centers in connection with three separate cases, following their recent arrests. The individuals include one suspect accused of attempted sexual assault on a minor and two suspects involved in drug-related offenses. The three cases are as follows: Case 1: On July 25, 2026, gendarmerie forces in Sen Sok District arrested a suspect named Nol Chantara, male, 28 years old, in the area of Chong Thnal East Village, Teuk La'ak Sangkat, Sen Sok District, Phnom Penh. The arrest was made following a complaint from the father of the 15-year-old victim, who alleged attempted sexual assault on his daughter. Case 2: Through the emergency hotline 1291, at approximately 5:10 PM on July 25, 2026, residents reported a man, identified as Ung Saoda, male, 25 years old, who was under the influence of drugs and causing disturbances and violence within his family in Prey Veng West Village, Prey Veng Sangkat, Dangkor District, Phnom Penh. Gendarmerie forces from Dangkor District immediately intervened, apprehended the suspect, and sent him to the Kandal Stung District Drug Rehabilitation Center. Case 3: Via the emergency hotline 1291, at approximately 6:50 PM on July 26, 2026, residents reported a man, identified as Von Pros Pov, male, 27 years old, who was under the influence of drugs and causing disturbances and violence within his family in Room 23, Kantoak Cheung Village, Kantoak Sangkat, Kambol District, Phnom Penh. Gendarmerie forces from Kambol District responded promptly, apprehended the suspect, and seized evidence including a small packet of white crystalline substances, a drug smoking pipe, and a slingshot. The suspect was transferred to court for illegal possession and use of narcotics. These actions underscore the ongoing efforts by Cambodian authorities to maintain public order and enforce the law, particularly in addressing crimes involving minors and the pervasive issue of drug abuse.
