Siem Reap City Hit by Flooding After Consecutive Heavy Rains; Residents Urged to Be Vigilant

Siem Reap City, known for the World Heritage site Angkor Wat in northwestern Cambodia, has been experiencing intermittent flooding in seven of its districts due to heavy, consecutive rainfall over the past few days. Local authorities and relevant agencies are monitoring the situation and preparing to intervene and assist affected residents. Hai Yeung, the Deputy Governor of Siem Reap City, stated on the afternoon of September 25th that the flooding was caused by a very high volume of rainfall occurring continuously. This led to water accumulating in low-lying areas and those where drainage systems could not keep up, resulting in inundation. He added, "In the last few days, Siem Reap City has been hit by consecutive heavy rains, causing intermittent flooding in parts of seven districts. The city authorities, in cooperation with relevant ministries, agencies, and local authorities, are closely monitoring the situation and preparing necessary measures to mitigate the impact on residents." The Deputy Governor urged residents living in flood-prone areas to continue monitoring weather information and official notifications from the authorities, and to exercise particular caution, especially for children, the elderly, and when traveling through flooded areas. Authorities have affirmed that they will regularly monitor the situation and take immediate intervention measures if further rainfall occurs or if water levels rise in vulnerable areas.
