Tây Ninh Province Rushes to Locate Burial Site of 260 Martyrs' Remains from 1967 Battle

Tây Ninh Province in southern Vietnam is currently making urgent efforts to identify the location where approximately 260 martyrs' remains are believed to be buried from the intense Suối Tre-Đồng Rùm battle in 1967. This activity is being carried out as part of the "500-Day Operation" aimed at accelerating the search, collection, and identification of remains. Within this operation, nearly 2,400 official documents and records are being meticulously reviewed and cataloged, while DNA testing for identification is also proceeding swiftly and rigorously. This is positioned as a significant national undertaking to return the remains of fallen soldiers to their homeland after nearly 60 years. Tây Ninh Province is also advancing plans to collect and repatriate 511 martyrs' remains during the 2025-2026 dry season. This highlights a part of the long-standing efforts in remains collection in areas where the memories of fierce battles during the Vietnam War (Anti-American War) remain vivid. Under Vietnam's one-party system led by the Communist Party, the commemoration of war casualties and the collection of remains are among the key policy priorities, serving as symbols of national unity and integration. While the country continues its economic growth, efforts to heal the scars of past wars and foster national patriotism are considered to contribute to maintaining social stability.
