Prabowo Acknowledges 'Mastermind' Behind August 27 Unrest

President Prabowo Subianto has for the first time publicly addressed intelligence reports indicating the presence of a 'mastermind' behind the unrest that occurred on August 27. Speaking at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, during a meeting with editors-in-chief and observers, Prabowo hinted at the possibility of a backlash against his administration's efforts to eradicate corruption. "Indonesia will be safe if we can eradicate corruption, and of course, corruptors will not like that," Prabowo stated. When asked if corruptors were orchestrating the chaos to destabilize the situation, he responded with a suggestive, "Well, something like that?" Prabowo also revealed that his government has received information regarding alleged fund flows behind the unrest. He claimed that some minors were deceived and incited to create chaos, with several admitting to being promised or paid money and even given substances. "When we gather these children, they admit that they were paid Rp100,000, promised Rp200,000, and told to do this and that. Some were given drugs," he said. When questioned about the possibility of political rivals being behind the unrest, Prabowo did not give a direct answer, likening it to drug mafias retaliating against anti-drug campaigns.
