Ground Broken for NAIA Terminal 3 Station of Metro Manila Subway Project

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) announced that ground has been broken for the NAIA Terminal 3 station, an airport link for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP). "This NAIA station will have mass public transport… a big help to commuters," said Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez on Wednesday. The NAIA Terminal 3 station is part of MMSP Contract Package (CP) 109, a 2.41-kilometer underground segment connecting Taguig City and Pasay City. The station will be constructed beneath the open parking lot of NAIA Terminal 3. According to the DoTr, the station's gross floor area will be 19,179 square meters. By 2035, the terminal link is expected to serve 70,000 passengers daily, with capacity projected at 74,000 per day by 2045. The P488.49-billion MMSP, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is a 33.10-kilometer subway line. It is expected to reduce travel time between Valenzuela City and NAIA to 41 minutes from the current two hours. The subway will feature 17 stations and is anticipated to carry up to 370,000 passengers daily. Mr. Lopez indicated that the entire subway is projected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2031, with full operations scheduled for the first half of 2032. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
