Cambodia Braces for New Storm 'Noul' with Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Following several days of heat, Cambodia is set to face a new weather phenomenon. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on July 24, 2026, that Tropical Depression 'Noul' (T2612) will pass through the Kingdom from July 24 to 29, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms to several provinces and areas. The ministry has urged the public to exercise extreme caution. The tropical depression 'Noul' has developed from a low-pressure system over the western Pacific Ocean and is influencing the southwest monsoon affecting the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia itself is not directly in the path of 'Noul.' According to the ministry's announcement, from July 24 to 29, low-lying areas including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Poipet, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh capital may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms covering about 50% of the land area. Highland areas such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms covering about 70% of the land area. Coastal areas, including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountain range, may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms covering about 70% of the land area. Sea waves are expected to be strong, with an average minimum height of 0.50 meters and an average maximum height of 1.75 meters. Based on these forecasts, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has announced the need for the public to be highly vigilant regarding thunderstorms and strong winds, especially for those traveling by land and water.
