Cambodia Police Arrest Over 400 Suspects in July Crackdown on Gangs and Gambling

Cambodia's Ministry of Interior announced that police nationwide arrested over 400 individuals in July for alleged involvement in youth gangs and gambling activities. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to maintain public order and combat illegal acts across the country. According to the report, 85 cases related to youth gangs were cracked down upon, leading to the arrest of 314 individuals who were subsequently sent to court for strict legal action. In parallel, 24 gambling-related operations resulted in the detention of 95 people. Of these, 27 were forwarded to the courts, while the remaining 68 received warnings and signed agreements to cease their activities. Some suspects managed to evade capture. The crackdown operations against youth gangs and gambling were predominantly concentrated in the capital Phnom Penh, as well as in Kandal, Takeo, Kampong Speu, Kampot, Svay Rieng, Tbong Khmum, Siem Reap, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Poipet, Kratié, Mondulkiri, and Ratanakiri provinces. The Ministry of Interior has indicated its commitment to continuing similar enforcement actions to ensure societal stability. This series of arrests highlights the Cambodian government's focus on maintaining social order and eradicating crime. Youth delinquency and gambling, considered detrimental to public order and morality, are viewed as threats to societal stability, and the government has reiterated its firm stance against such activities.
