The number of vessels handled during the same period grew by 6.6%, to 1,891, while 209 passenger ships docked at the port, up 8.3%, with passenger numbers growing 6.67% ,to 21,426. The Phnom Penh Post Chea Chandara, president of the Logistics Supply Chain & Brokers Business Association in Cambodia, told The Post that the increase in cargo and container traffic indicates that Cambodia’s economy is performing well despite ongoing challenges facing the global economy. He noted that the port is expected to become even busier once the Funan Techo Canal project, which will connect the Bassac River to a seaport, becomes operational. “The increase in domestic investment activities and the growth of international trade have contributed to the rising volume of cargo moving through the port. This positive trend is expected to become even more pronounced in the near future,” he said. Hei Bavy, chairman and director-general of PPAP, previously explained that the port’s success has been driven by its commitment to providing customers with transparent and efficient port operations, enabling it to respond effectively and reliably to their needs. He noted that PPAP has strengthened service quality, expanded cargo handling and storage capacity, developed infrastructure, carried out maintenance work and invested in new machinery and equipment. “PPAP remains firmly committed to ensuring transparency and efficiency in its daily operations and activities across all terminals in order to strengthen customer confidence and enhance the attractiveness of its international-standard port services,” he said.
