Cambodia's Kratie Province Accelerates Data Collection for Land and Housing Aid to Needy Veterans and Retirees

Kratie Province, Cambodia – Efforts are underway in Kratie Province to expedite the collection of data for providing land and housing assistance to impoverished veterans and retirees. Um Sok, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, has directed the provincial, municipal, district, and commune-Sangkat branches of the association to accelerate the precise investigation and data gathering concerning veterans and retirees who are members and are experiencing financial hardship. This directive was issued during the opening of a training course focused on administrative work and survivor benefits for members of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association in Kratie Province. The event, held on August 5, 2026, was attended by approximately 140 individuals, including standing committee members of the central association and the vice chairman and members of the Kratie Provincial Association. Um Sok highlighted a significant policy shift, stating, "Previously, we only looked after veterans. From now on, we must look after and pay attention to both veterans and retirees." This expansion necessitates adjustments within the secretariat at all levels, leading to a broader scope of work at the grassroots level within ministries, institutions, provincial departments, and units. The central leadership of the association is deploying specialized officers to conduct presentations and training on the revised structure for serving veterans and retirees. The focus is on strengthening administrative and survivor benefit operations to ensure leaders and working groups across all levels in Kratie Province gain a thorough understanding and can execute their tasks more effectively, rapidly, and in a timely manner. Um Sok further elaborated on the practical implementation, instructing all levels of the association to conduct direct home visits to members. "We must manage statistics and lists of all 2,468 veterans and retirees in Kratie Province to understand their well-being, increase closeness, and facilitate management," he stated. The initiative also includes the systematic collection of data for both veterans and retirees to compile profile books. These records will be maintained at the commune-Sangkat, municipal/district, provincial, and central standing committee levels of the association.
