Rick Wakeman Performs Piano for Rescued Bears in Vietnam

Legendary keyboardist Rick Wakeman performed a piano concert amidst the Tam Dao forest in Vietnam, dedicating his music to rescued bears. Wakeman expressed his deep emotion upon seeing the bears appear, having been uncertain whether any would attend his performance. He stated that this was precisely what he had hoped for: to stand before a bear enclosure and play music as close to the animals as possible. The performance, held in Phuc Tho Commune, Hanoi, marks a significant moment in wildlife conservation. For over two decades, Vietnam has been resolute in its commitment to eradicating bear farming for bile and ending poaching activities. This extensive effort, spanning from 2005 to 2026, has seen numerous bears rescued and facilities shut down. Collaborative initiatives are underway in Hanoi to end bear captivity. Recently, a bear named Millie was successfully rescued, and another household voluntarily ceased bear farming. However, it is noted that the continuation of these efforts requires not only financial support but also a shift in advocacy strategies. Wakeman's visit and performance serve as a symbolic gesture, highlighting the progress in wildlife protection in Vietnam and drawing international attention to animal welfare.
