Thai Police Order Probe into Officers Implicated in Drug Case

Thailand's national police chief has ordered an immediate investigation into the mobile phones of police officers implicated in a drug-related allegation that surfaced during a television program. The probe is a response to claims made by the wife of a suspect in the murder of two Russian brothers. According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiewpan, Inspector-General of the National Police and police spokesperson, the allegations were aired on the TV show "Hone Krasae." The suspect's wife stated that her husband had been taken to receive drugs by a police officer, referred to as "the boss," from the Huay Yai Police Station. This officer had reportedly promised to buy his wife a gold necklace once the drugs were sold. In response, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong stated that the Commissioner-General of the National Police has instructed the Provincial Police Region 2 to thoroughly investigate all allegations raised on the television program. Detailed questioning of the individual who provided the information is also scheduled. He emphasized that offenses related to drug trafficking are within the statute of limitations, and investigators will collect evidence and prosecute any individuals found to be involved according to the law. Furthermore, the direct superiors of the accused police officer have been ordered to promptly submit the officer's mobile phone for examination. If clear evidence is found, the officer will be prosecuted strictly under the law, and decisive action will be taken if other police officers are found to be involved. The Royal Thai Police are also currently reviewing potential loopholes or areas for improvement in the process of releasing and receiving inmates from the Department of Corrections to prevent similar issues from recurring. It was reiterated that decisive disciplinary and criminal action will be taken against any police officers involved in wrongdoing, in line with the Commissioner-General's policy. Source: INN News
