Dong Nai Red Cross Aims for Expanded Humanitarian Aid in New Term

Dong Nai Province, Vietnam – The Dong Nai provincial chapter of the Vietnam Red Cross Society convened its first delegate congress on July 15, covering the term from 2026 to 2031. The event saw the participation of 230 delegates who reviewed past activities and discussed future objectives. During the previous term, the chapter's work focused on three pillars: humanitarian aid, health promotion, and community capacity building. This resulted in expanded operations, with a total value reaching nearly VND 1.17 trillion, providing assistance to hundreds of thousands of people. Significant progress was noted in voluntary blood donation, healthcare, community first aid, and disaster response capabilities. Resource mobilization and communication efforts transitioned to digital platforms, and humanitarian diplomacy also saw expansion. For the new term, the Dong Nai Red Cross chapter has set a target to increase the total value of humanitarian aid activities to over VND 1.2 trillion. The number of beneficiaries is projected to exceed 2.2 million, with priority given to vulnerable groups, remote areas, and regions affected by natural disasters. A key goal is to establish and maintain at least one sustainable humanitarian aid model in every xã (commune) and phường (ward). Speaking at the congress, Mr. Le Truong Son, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged the chapter's achievements. He also highlighted that Dong Nai remains vulnerable to climate change, and many residents in remote, border, and ethnic minority areas continue to face hardships. Therefore, he urged the new leadership to further innovate their methods, focusing on community-based approaches, close engagement with residents, and precise identification of those in need for direct, effective, and sustainable assistance, in line with the "Every organization, every individual connected to a humanitarian address" campaign. Mr. Son emphasized the importance of enhancing the capacity of officials, strengthening organizational structures at all levels, and expanding the network of volunteers and collaborators. "Every Red Cross official must be a role model of compassion, possess skillful mobilization abilities, and spread positive energy to the community," he stated. Furthermore, the provincial leadership proposed strengthening coordination with various departments, organizations, and especially member organizations of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front to ensure humanitarian activities are equitable and avoid duplication. During the congress, 29 members were elected to the executive committee for the 2026-2031 term. In its first session, the committee unanimously re-elected Mr. Nguyen Tan Hung as the Chairman of the Dong Nai Red Cross chapter.
