Ho Chi Minh City Woman and Family Donate Blood 260 Times

Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) resident Ho Kim Phuong, 61, and her family have achieved a remarkable number of blood donations. Initially, Ms. Phuong began donating blood secretly, fearing her husband's disapproval. However, her initiative eventually involved her entire family of four, leading to a collective total of 260 blood donations to date. Phuong's journey into blood donation began in 2017. She continued to donate blood without her husband's knowledge at first, but her efforts soon spread to her family. Ultimately, all four family members joined her in donating blood, with Phuong herself exceeding 100 donations and other family members contributing dozens each. Their blood donation activities have become a symbol of promoting health and respecting life within their local community, extending beyond individual goodwill. In Vietnam, under the one-party system of the Communist Party, social contribution activities are often encouraged. Blood donation, in particular, which contributes to public health and welfare, is actively promoted by the government and related organizations and is sometimes highlighted in the media as exemplary citizen activity.
