Cambodia to Cooperate with China-ASEAN Association to Attract Major Chinese Film Production Companies
Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism met with the Promotion of Economic and Trade Cambodia-ASEAN Association to discuss attracting major Chinese film production companies and establishing Cambodia as an international filming destination. Both parties agreed to strengthen cooperation between tourism and the film industry.
On September 13, 2026, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, H.E. Thong Khon, granted an audience to Mr. Bo Shanglang, President of the Promotion of Economic and Trade Cambodia-ASEAN Association, and his delegation, along with Chinese investors including the General Manager of China Southern Airlines and Luzhou Laojiao International Development. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Tourism, aimed to report on the association's activities and discuss strengthening and expanding cooperation in Cambodia-China tourism, particularly focusing on the "Tourism and Film" initiative. H.E. Thong Khon warmly welcomed Mr. Bo Shanglang and the delegation, expressing high appreciation and gratitude for the association and Chinese investors' support in promoting Cambodia's tourism and investment potential to the Chinese public, enterprises, and investors. The Minister emphasized that Cambodia and China are "iron friends" and comprehensive strategic partners, continuously enhancing cooperation across all sectors, including tourism. H.E. Thong Khon also highlighted the government's policy to link "Tourism and Film," noting that the Ministry of Tourism is leading an inter-ministerial working group to facilitate and support film production in Cambodia, with the goal of transforming the country into an international film shooting destination. The ministry is focusing on streamlining procedures, establishing a one-stop service mechanism, and promoting Cambodia's diverse film locations, including temples, cultural heritage sites, coastlines, mountains, and beautiful natural areas. Mr. Bo Shanglang expressed his commitment to cooperating with the Ministry of Tourism to attract major film production companies from mainland China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to shoot large-scale films in Cambodia. He also conveyed his willingness to help disseminate accurate information about Cambodia's situation, security, and safety to Chinese citizens and business people, thereby strengthening business network and investment ties between the two countries. In conclusion, H.E. Thong Khon requested the association to continue disseminating truthful information about Cambodia's political, social, economic, and security situation, as well as promoting the government's incentive policies and mechanisms to attract Chinese tourists, film production companies, content creators, and investors. He also asked the association to help organize FAM trips for Chinese tourism operators, content creators, and media to promote Cambodia's tourism and investment potential, and to enhance Cambodia's international reputation and tourism capabilities. The Promotion of Economic and Trade Cambodia-ASEAN Association's mission is to foster economic, trade, cultural cooperation, and business connectivity between Cambodia and China.
