White wheat trading brisk in Monywa market

In the Monywa commodity market in Monywa city, Sagaing Region, demand for white wheat has increased in recent days, and trading is brisk, according to merchants and brokers from the Monywa commodity exchange. White wheat from the Yinmarpin district, west of the Chindwin River, is entering the Monywa market, while red wheat, a high-yield variety, is mostly entering from the Chaung Oo region. Currently, red wheat is trading at over 70,000 kyats per tin (20 viss) in the Monywa market, and white wheat harvested before Thingyan is trading at 88,000 kyats per tin (20 viss), according to a merchant from the Monywa commodity exchange. Due to insufficient domestic supply of white and red wheat and low inflow, prices are likely to rise further, and merchants and brokers in the city are rationing sales due to the scarcity of goods. Previously, Indian wheat entered as a substitute, causing the wheat market to collapse, leading farmers to switch to other profitable crops. However, as wheat prices have now recovered, farmers in the Yinmarpin region have stated that they will resume wheat cultivation during the winter cropping season.
