VNA Proposes Mechanism for Information Sharing and Verification

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) is strengthening its efforts to combat misinformation and establish mechanisms for information sharing and verification both domestically and internationally. VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang announced that the agency is developing a three-pronged approach to fact-checking. This includes verifying information at its source, utilizing technology to scan for and flag potentially false information, and establishing rapid fact-checking channels. This initiative aims to further solidify VNA's role as a key national news agency. This move is seen as an effort to enhance VNA's position as a reliable source of information as Vietnam accelerates its digital transformation and builds a modern information ecosystem. The spread of misinformation and disinformation, particularly with the proliferation of social media in recent years, has become a societal challenge in many countries, including Vietnam. The mechanism proposed by VNA could be a crucial step in addressing these issues and ensuring accurate information is provided to the public. While Vietnam operates under a one-party system which includes aspects of information control, it also recognizes the need for international information exchange and healthy domestic information flow as it continues its economic growth.
