Cambodia's Ministry of Interior to Hold Conference on 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Achievements
Cambodia's Ministry of Interior will convene a two-day conference from September 7-8, 2026, in Phnom Penh to review the achievements of the 5th mandate Commune/Sangkat Councils. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, will preside as representative of Prime Minister Hun Manet. The conference aims to assess progress and challenges, and to formulate recommendations for the 6th mandate councils to enhance their effectiveness and responsiveness to local needs.
The Ministry of Interior will organize a two-day conference to summarize the achievements of the 5th mandate Commune/Sangkat Councils, scheduled to take place on September 7 and 8, 2026, at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel in Phnom Penh. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, will preside over the opening ceremony as the representative of Prime Minister Hun Manet. The Ministry of Interior states that the objective of organizing this conference is to review the progress and challenges faced by the Commune/Sangkat Councils during their 5th mandate. Furthermore, it aims to set directions, measures, and key recommendations to support the 6th mandate councils in fulfilling their roles more effectively, efficiently, transparently, and in better responding to the needs of the local population. The conference will be attended by representatives from national ministries and institutions, leaders from all levels of sub-national administration, development partners, and national and international civil society organizations.
