Plans to Restore and Replant Flooded Fields

Plans are in place to restore and replant the flooded fields in the Ayeyarwady Region as quickly as possible, according to U Zaw Wan, Director of the Ayeyarwady Region Department of Agriculture. The low embankment of the Ngwanta River in the Laymyethna Township of the Ayeyarwady Region caused water to overflow, damaging the paddy and crops cultivated by farmers in five townships within the Ayeyarwady Region. It is said that in the flooded areas, priority will be given to replanting paddy, and other crops will be planted in areas where paddy cannot be replanted. U Zaw Wan stated that the extent of the damage has been systematically assessed and recorded in the field, and plans are in place for prompt restoration and replanting. He added that agricultural rehabilitation work will be carried out quickly once the water recedes. Furthermore, regarding the plowing and replanting efforts, the Department of Agricultural Mechanization has mobilized approximately 200 tractors from the Ayeyarwady, Yangon, and Bago regions and assigned them to various locations. It is also known that plans are being made to supply 90-day paddy seeds and pulses to farmers who will be replanting. According to the Ayeyarwady Region Department of Agriculture, approximately 97,000 acres of farmland in Laymyethna Township, Hinthada Township, Zalun Township, Nyaungdon Township, and Kyaunggon Township within the Ayeyarwady Region were inundated by floods.
