Sleeper Bus Fire in Southern Vietnam Kills 7, Investigation Underway

A tragic accident occurred in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam, early on July 21, when a sleeper bus burst into flames, resulting in seven fatalities and five injuries. According to local authorities, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. in Hung Thinh Commune, approximately 30 kilometers from the provincial capital, Bien Hoa City. The 24-bed bus reportedly veered off the road and struck an embankment on the right side, before continuing and coming to a stop after hitting a second embankment. Flames erupted from underneath the vehicle and quickly engulfed the entire cabin. The 41-year-old driver shouted for passengers to evacuate, but the fire spread too rapidly for many to escape in time. Dong Nai's Fire Prevention, Firefighting, and Rescue Police immediately dispatched emergency personnel and two specialized fire engines to the scene. The blaze was brought under control after about 30 minutes. Upon inspecting the charred interior of the bus, authorities recovered the bodies of the seven deceased victims. The five injured passengers were rushed to Thong Nhat General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. One of the injured victims, who sustained only minor injuries, has since been discharged. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Vietnam has been rapidly developing its road infrastructure alongside its swift economic growth. However, concerns have been raised about the pace of traffic safety measures. The safe management of long-distance buses and trucks, in particular, remains a critical issue for protecting citizens' lives. This incident once again underscores the importance of traffic safety in Vietnam.
