Over 1,500 Weight-Loss Pens Worth 5.5 Million Baht Seized in Phuket
Phuket authorities seized over 1,500 weight-loss pens, valued at 5.5 million baht, from a condominium in Wichit following customer complaints about online purchases. The items are suspected to be unapproved pharmaceuticals.
Phuket – Investigators from Muang Phuket Police Station, working with the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, raided a condominium unit in Wichit after receiving complaints from customers who had ordered weight-loss pens online. During the search, officers discovered a large stock of weight-loss pens and related products totaling more than 1,500 items. Authorities estimated the value of the seized items to be over 5.5 million baht. Authorities suspect that these products are likely unapproved pharmaceuticals by the Thai Food and Drug Administration (TFDA). These seized products may be prohibited from sale and distribution within Thailand. The police plan to further investigate the origin and distribution channels of these products. Weight-loss pens have seen an increase in online sales in recent years, with claims of effectiveness accompanied by concerns about their safety and efficacy. In Thailand, the sale and possession of unapproved pharmaceuticals are strictly prohibited by law, and violators face penalties. This seizure highlights the risks associated with online pharmaceutical transactions and the importance of regulatory oversight. Phuket police stated that they will continue to strengthen enforcement against similar illegal activities. Source: The Phuket Express
