5th Infantry Battalion warns against involvement with the military in Katha District, issues night curfew in some areas

The 5th Infantry Battalion in Katha District has issued a warning and order, dated July 20, to the public residing within its territory, strictly prohibiting any involvement or connection with the interim government's military, and has imposed a night curfew in some areas. The 5th Infantry Battalion, Katha District, under the 1st Military Command, which is under the National Unity Government (NUG), has earnestly warned all parents and citizens residing in its territory who are engaged in gold mining and other economic activities not to associate with the military or to generate "blood money." Furthermore, it has prohibited providing information to the military, gathering information, and acting as spies, stating that any cooperation or involvement with the military that would harm the entire revolution, for any reason, is strictly forbidden. It has been severely warned that if individuals continue to cooperate or associate with the military without adhering to the warnings, strict action will be taken. Concurrently, due to intense fighting occurring within Katha District, an order has been issued to restrict movement on certain road sections with time limitations. It is understood that this restriction is being imposed to prevent harm to civilians, as the interim government's military is using civilian vehicles to transport personnel and military equipment along all routes branching off the Mandalay-Bhamo Union Highway, including the eastern Ayeyarwaddy region and the Ingyee-Nyaungpinkwin road. The 5th Infantry Battalion in Katha District has warned that movement on these road sections and their branches is prohibited between 7 PM and 5 AM, starting from July 20, 2026. It has requested that local residents be aware of and respect this local decree, and stated that it will not be responsible for any subsequent problems or issues arising from non-compliance and indiscipline.
