Laos and Japan Launch New Phase of Primary Mathematics Education Project

The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced the launch of a new phase of the primary mathematics education project in collaboration with the Japanese government. This cooperation is part of ongoing efforts to improve educational standards within Laos, particularly aiming to ensure the quality of education in rural and remote areas is on par with that in urban centers. The ministry held a national consultation on July 2 to review the implementation of the 2025–2026 domestic student and civil servant quota allocation plan and to formulate the allocation framework for the 2026–2027 academic year. This was conducted as part of efforts to strengthen human resource development and better align education with national workforce needs. The new phase of cooperation with Japan in mathematics education signifies Laos's strong commitment to enhancing its education system. Under its one-party system, Laos aims for economic development and social stability, and investment in education forms the foundation for nurturing human resources who will lead the nation's future development. Cooperation in education with Japan is also significant for building diverse international relations, especially given Laos's close ties with China and Vietnam.
