Motion to review ASEAN's 5-point statement approved in parliament

A motion urging the Union Government to review and implement ASEAN's 5-point statement was approved by the Union Parliament on the seventh day of the second regular session of the third Union Parliament, held on July 9. The motion was submitted by Dr. Nanda Hla Myint, People's Hluttaw representative for Kalaw constituency, at the Union Parliament held on June 26, and 30 Hluttaw representatives debated in support of it. The motion urges the Union Government to review and implement the ASEAN's 5-point statement as needed, as it conflicts with ASEAN's fundamental principles of not affecting Myanmar's equal status within the ASEAN community and not interfering in a country's internal affairs, and is inconsistent with Myanmar's current de facto political situation. Dr. Nanda Hla Myint also stated that he believes the country can do its best for the honor of the country and its citizens in its dealings with ASEAN. Following this, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe also came to the Union Parliament to clarify and present regarding the motion. After that, when seeking the parliament's opinion on the motion, as there were no objectors, the Speaker of the Union Parliament, U Aung Lin Dway, announced that it was approved and would be carried out in accordance with Rule 81 of the Union Parliament Rules.
