Pailin Province Strengthens Maternal Care with NGO Support to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality

Pailin Province Governor Dr. Bat Sreymom led a delegation of technical officials to inspect the provision of maternal health services at the Phnom Pral Health Center in Stueng Trang commune, Sala Krau district, Pailin province, on September 17, 2026. The visit focused on reducing and eliminating maternal and infant mortality during pregnancy and childbirth, with support from the Australian NGO 'Every Mum'. Governor Bat Sreymom praised and highly valued the support from 'Every Mum' in promoting the health sector in Pailin, particularly in preventing and eradicating preventable maternal and infant deaths. She stated that the provincial administration is ready to provide full cooperation for all projects to ensure that maternal and infant health outcomes are effectively achieved and meet their targets. She highlighted that the Cambodian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, has set 'Promoting the Health and Well-being of the People' as a key priority within the 'Pentagonal Strategy Phase I'. This strategy includes measures such as expanding universal health coverage, strengthening the quality of local health services, developing medical infrastructure and technology, and preventing non-communicable and infectious diseases. During the event, Governor Bat Sreymom urged healthcare providers, including doctors, midwives, and health staff at referral hospitals and health centers, to strengthen their professional ethics and conduct. She emphasized the importance of patient safety, continuous professional development, and the adoption of new medical techniques to respond to evolving health challenges. Maintaining regular hygiene to create a clean, green, and sanitary environment was also stressed to provide comfort to patients and their relatives. 'Every Mum' is a charitable organization from Australia with over 25 years of active experience in Cambodia. Its global mission is to reduce and eliminate maternal and infant mortality. Core activities include training and capacity building for midwives and community health workers, providing medical equipment and necessary supplies (especially ultrasound machines) to remote health centers, and conducting community education campaigns to encourage pregnant women to receive regular antenatal check-ups at local health centers.
